THE VALUE OF LINES IN LANDSCAPES

Never underestimate the value of creating a line in a landscape. There was a steep mildly imposing hill on the knoll which was formed long before I became the caretaker of this bit of soil, created presumably to make room for the large hoop house below. I had thought about cutting a path across it for some time, but was not convinced of the impact. Well, it turns out I was wrong.

The path (which still needs refining) along with the five new olives planted on the hillside change everything. The hill is no longer imposing, but inviting and the complicated shifting slope and strange angles the hill formerly thrust into the space feel appropriately eccentric, no longer the result of hasty planning and poor implementation.
